Lake Highlands is dedicated to college readiness for our students. But parents need help, too! I hope that you have taken part in some of the activities and programs your LHHS PTA has offered over the past few weeks to help parents get ready
College and Career Center Night with Dr. Brenda Prine – an introduction to parents about what is covered by Dr. Prine with each grade level – Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores. One of the evening’s best questions was from a parent who asked, “Do we need to engage and pay for a personal consultant to work with our student on the college selection and application process?” Dr. Prine answered, “You already have one! And I would love to help your student.” What an incredible opportunity for us! I have already had an appointment to meet with Dr. Prine and my student who is a junior. She gave us confidence about decisions we had already made and helped us plan for tutoring classes and retaking the SAT in May. Invaluable! Ask your student what their experience has been with our College and Career Counseling Center.
College Funding Seminar with Keith Chapman – after our Spring Open House, Lake Highlands neighbor Keith Chapman of Chapman Wealth Management spoke to our LH parents about options for funding college. This is the second year we have held this popular seminar. If you would like copies of his handouts, please email me (

FAFSA Workshop – One of the most important things to do if you are a senior is to apply online for the “Free Application for Federal Student Aid. www.fafsa.ed.gov This is the first step in the financial aid process for almost all colleges and universities. Our LHHS Library was open on Saturday February 20th with Dr. Prine and financial aid counselors from area colleges to assist parents in applying online. We hope to do this every year.
