Choir Celebrates Great Year Choir Celebrates Great Year

The Lake Highlands Choirs hosted an informal concert May 8, inviting family and friends to catch a rare glimpse of the kids performing in their casual clothes instead of their official tuxedos and evening gowns. They sang a few of the songs that earned them a display case full of trophies this year, and they shared a slide presentation of photos from their performances, social events, and trip to Corpus Christi.

Toby Furr Semi Finalist in International Contest Toby Furr Semi Finalist in International Contest

Mr. Toby Furr, a senior euphonium player here in the LH Band was selected as a semi finalist for the Leonard Falcone International Tuba and Euphonium Contest. Toby entered this contest on his own time and taped his performance for submission.

Good News for Fine Arts

Senator Florence Shapiro (R-Plano) amended House Bill 3, the accountability bill, to require one credit of fine arts and one credit of physical education in all three high school graduation plans. The amendment passed unanimously. Senators Nelson, Van de Putte and Hinojosa all praised her for her efforts.

Michael O'Hern Receives PTA's Extended Service Award

At the choir concert on Friday May 8, PTA president Donna Kent presented choir director Michael O'Hern with the Extended Service Award. He could not attend Tuesday's award ceremony, so all of LH kept the secret until the concert.

DCI July 16 and 17

On July 16 and 17 Lake Highlands High School Marching Band will host a Drum Corps International competition. The Band has been hosting DCI for over 30 years. This year DCI will be 2 nights, with the top competing bands in the country.
