 | A Note from the President
In today’s vernacular, I guess you would call this a “blog.” Last week my daughter, Sarah, a junior at LHHS, listed the blogs and responses she has to create every week for class assignments: more than one or two! What a change from journals and diaries - from only last semester! The reason we were discussing this was her insistence that I read several of her classmates’ blogs since this was the subject of conversation during the school day.

 | RISD Names Dr. Kay Waggoner Superintendent Finalist
The Board of Trustees of the Richardson Independent School District (RISD) has named Kay Waggoner, Ph.D., currently superintendent of Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, as the sole finalist for the district’s lead position. The action was taken at the Board’s January 29 called meeting and followed a nationwide search conducted by the trustees.

Spring Open House
LHHS Winter/Spring Semester Open House is coming up on Tuesday February 16 at 7 p.m. Plan to come early for a PTA meeting at 6:30 p.m. Our 2010-2011 LHHS PTA Board will be elected at this meeting. This open house allows you to visit any of your student’s teachers at your own pace.

The RISD Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) will meet three times during the 2009-2010 school year to share information regarding district-wide concerns with the Superintendent, Administrators, and the Board of Trustees. All meetings begin at 7:00 pm in Room 203 at the RISD Administration Building at 400 South Greenville.

2010 Used Book Fair
The 28th Annual RISD Council of PTA's Used Book Fair will be held at Valley View Mall, February 11-13 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and February 14 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. All proceeds benefits the Dr. JJ Pearce Memorial Scholarships Fund and the RISD Council and Local PTA's.

LHHS high school students now have access to their student information online (grades, attendance, unofficial transcript) with their own personal student accounts. Access Student Star Portal via web address, https://portal0.risd.org (include the s and, yes, that is a zero in the web address.) A recent article in USA Today about the H1N1 vaccination indicates 80% of 311,000 Texas children are overdue for the booster. Recent Center for Disease Control (CDC) statistics show there is a long way to go to adequately protect adults and children from the return of new H1N1 influenza.
